Postmark: Cleveland, Ohio – August 14, 1942 (Akron Philatelic Society Commemorative Station) Stamp: 5¢ brown Virginia Statehood Centennial (Scott #902), issued 1941 to mark the 100th anniversary of Virginia’s admission to the Union. Cachet: Patriotic wartime propaganda in red and blue. It depicts military might—tanks, planes, ships, and artillery—framed by a giant sword labeled “U.S. MIGHT.” The slogan reads: “WE INSIST ON THE LAST WORD … IN THE ONLY LANGUAGE THEY SPEAK.” Addressed To: Mr. R. E. Pempin, Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Theme: World War II patriotic cover emphasizing American military strength and resolve to achieve victory by force when necessary.
