I had the great pleasure of meeting Czeslaw Slania, probably the greatest of all stamp engravers, at the giant Pacific 97 international stamp exhibition, and he actually told me, when I asked him to sign my FDC of the incredible curly-horned ram stamp he had engraved for the Faroes Islands, that THAT was his VERY FAVORITE stamp of all the thousands he had engraved!

That gorgeous 1979 work of stamp art is present here, used as a combo, on this U.S. FDC for the Year of the Ram stamp of 2003. The stamp additionally is an inscription corner block from a sheet of 20.

The cachet, printed in blue, shows a Ram and his two sons, with one of them sounding the gong as the New Year begins! The artwork has hand-tipped gold leaf accents.

This is the last cover that is franked this way remaining in the artist's archives. Thank you, Czeslaw, for adding so much to this cover . . . and to the hobby!
